About Ed
My Story
My name is Ed (Edward) Niembro and I am Meditacion Yoga Barcelona.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, I was the founder of Ed Yoga Fontainebleau and Le Centre de Meditation & Yoga, the first dedicated centre of this type in Fontainebleau, France. I now live in Barcelona since September 2019.
I am a trained sustainability specialist & project managed large infrastructure projects across Asia & Europe for over 20 years with engineering and environmental organisations. However,I have been a practitioner of Vipassana meditation since 1998 and received training as a mindfulness teacher, under the Vipassana lineage of Jack Kornfield & Tara Brach. I am now a certified senior mindfulness teacher since 2018 and accredited by the International Meditation Teachers Association.
I am also a certified hatha yoga teacher since 2011 obtaining my certification to teach from the International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA) in Sydney Australia and from Jivamukti Global in India (2020).
I worked as a mindfulness consultant in Australia & in France, introducing mindfulness meditation into the corporate workplace, and became INSEAD Business School’s resident mindfulness facilitator from 2016 to 2019. I have 10 years of targeted, international experience of bringing meditation & yoga into the workplace of education, corporate and not-for-profit sectors.
Discovering meditation helped me to work with stress from work (deadlines and workplace conflicts, challenging clients). This discovery encouraged me to study at the best spiritual schools on this planet. The nature of my work with high demand for travel also allowed me to be exposed to inspiring meditation teachings and teachers in both in the East and West.
Having gone through the pain and grief of the death of my parents, a divorce and switching gears to start a new life in Barcelona, the importance of mindfully working through the ’10,000 joys & sorrows’ of life with proven meditation & yogic techniques has been a blessing.
Therefore, I believe the greatest impact I can have is not teaching to large classes of random people. It is to offer small group/private sessions and workshops to those who are currently dealing with the big issues in their life and need a spiritual reference point along their journey.
Also, my experience of being a studio owner in France has allowed me to create a unique meditation/yoga space or ‘nook’ here in Barcelona along La Rambla. The construction of this nook has allowed students to help quieten their minds and open their hearts.
My classes seamlessly combine vipassana meditation with various styles of yoga (including Jivamukti and Iyengar) within the framework of Hatha yoga.
So come and try! if you are clear with your intentions, you won’t be disappointed! And if you are not clear about your deep intentions, I can help you with this as well. Hasta luego!

Private Sessions with Ed
Speak to Ed about your needs. Meditation was traditionally taught one-on-one with spiritual masters passing down their wisdom to students in a way that was meaningful to each individual. Today, private meditation classes are still the best way to learn.
